President's Voice (Tony Brar):

Hello!

Our next general meeting will be Wednesday (February 17th) in MSC 3704 at 5:00PM. Our guest speaker will be a first year medical student from the USF College of Medicine, Asef Mahmud.

Again, for those of you who haven't yet picked up your membership IDs and T-shirts from last semester, they will be available at this meeting.

Membership Coordinator's Voice (Mishka Peart):

I would like to inform everyone of our changes in membership policies beginning in the spring of 2010!  There are four separate categories so please read through it to see which of them apply to you!

1.  If you have paid dues in the spring of 2009 or before:  Then your membership is over and you need to renew!  You can pay $75 to become a national member, where you can receive honor cords at graduation, our biannual magazine The Scalpel, and be recognized nationally.  The $75 is a one-time fee and thus become an AED member for life.  Yay! No more membership fees!

2.  If you have paid your dues in the fall of 2009:  You no longer have to wait a whole year before you can reap the benefits of becoming a national member, but there will be certain requirements.  Before paying the $75 to become a national member, you will first have to achieve 50 quality points.  This may sound like a lot, but if you come to our meetings and remain an active part of the club, you will be there in no time!  Once again, the $75 will be a lifetime membership fee that will only have to be paid once.

For those of you that do not achieve 50 quality points during the semester, your membership will expire at the end of spring 2010, and you will need to pay $25 at the beginning of the following semester to remain in the organization!!  This is to get more of our members involved with their fellow colleagues and remain active in their community.  For those of you who have already paid dues but are unable to come to our meetings because of class or work, please e-mail me at mpeart@mail.usf.edu and we can work out a similar point system for you.  You will have to send proof of the time conflict you are speaking of!

3.  If you will be paying your dues in spring 2010:  The $50 fee will be good for one semester; after every subsequent semester you will have to pay $25 to get your membership renewed.  If you are able to achieve 50 quality points during the semester, you will be invited to become a national member for a one-time fee of $75, after which you are an AED member for a lifetime.  If you are concerned that you are unable to come to the meetings because of work or school conflicts, please e-mail me at mpeart@mail.usf.edu and we can work out a similar point system for you.  You will have to send proof of the time conflict you are speaking of!

4.  If you are a freshman who is paying dues for the first time:  You HAVE to be a sophomore in order to become a national member.  Therefore, you will pay a one-time fee of $50 during your freshman year, after which you are able to pay the $75 your sophomore year if you have accumulated the 50 required quality points in any one semester.

****Unless you are a national member, membership now needs to be renewed every semester!!  Aim to become a national member to receive benefits, recognition for your hard work, and save a lot of money in the process!!****

****The first three members to reach 50 quality points each semester will receive an impressive prize!!****

To comfort everyone about the point system, the breakdown of the points is included below.
